What is CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture and it is a growing global trend towards local food production and consumption.

Basically it connects farmers with eaters – so you know exactly where your food came from (Balaclava & 51st Avenue!).  CSA members pay for a ”share” of a farm’s seasonal produce at the beginning of the season.

This money is used by the farmer to purchase seed and grow a crop of delicious fruits and vegetables. If mother nature cooperates, CSA shareholders can expect to receive more than their share’s worth of gourmet food.

What’s in a Bin?

Bin size and content will vary with the season.  In the early season your box will mostly be made up of salad greens, beans, peas, tomatoes, brassicas and other early season crops. As the season progresses, more and more larger crops will become ready for harvest; for example squash, apples, pumpkins, zucchini, potatoes.

What can CSA members expect to receive?

  • Fresh, gourmet fruits, vegetables, eggs and herbs. Everything our seasons have to offer!
  • The satisfaction of knowing your family’s food was grown right here in Vancouver by your own personal farmer.
  • Organic vegetables grown using biodynamic and permaculture principles in a environmentally sustainable fashion.
  • Exposure to new foods, flavours, and food preparation ideas.
